Snake River

The five mile stretch from Jackson Lake Dam (near Jackson Lake Junction on US-89) to Pacific Creek is Class I. The river follows along the base of Signal Mountain for the first two miles. Just below is a landing at Cattlemen's Bridge in the Oxbow Bend area. Two miles downstream is the Pacific Creek Landing. Float time is two hours.

Beginning at the Pacific Creek Landing (just north of Moran Junction), the river braids and twists along through the upper Jackson Hole. This twenty mile section of the Snake rates a Class II due to the strong current, numerous channels, and occasional logjams.

Two miles down from the landing, you go around Spring Bank Bend and a mile further is Swallow Bank. You then pass by Sage Brush Island and enter the Eagle Nest Closure area. Below here, you have a few small waves as you pass Cutbank to Deadman's Bar landing. Access to this landing is reached by turning off US-89 just north of the Snake River Overlook. Float time is two hours.

Below Deadman's Bar are a few more waves and another Eagle Nest Closure area. Below Otter Bank is a channel selection. For Schwarachers Landing, you need to make a hard turn and take the small channel on the left. Access to this landing is reached off US-89 just north of the Glacier View Overlook. If you continue downstream, the river breaks up into many small channels in the Maze and then rejoins again near the Slipstream. Three miles further, you have a few small waves above Moose Landing. Float time is two hours.
