This trip begins by turning off US-191 at Boulder (mile #88) and going east on W-353. As you head toward the Wind River Mountains, you can see the top of Temple Peak to the southeast, Pyramid Peak to the east, and Fremont Peak to the northeast. At mile #2, S-125 turns north to Boulder Lake (and the Boulder Lake Trailhead) and at mile #5 you begin following the East Fork River. Here the road swings southeast toward Muddy Ridge.
At mile #7 you pass by the Scab Creek Access Road (S-122) going east. At mile #16 is a junction where W-353 ends. Here you can take S-133 south to Muddy Creek and join S-113 going west to US-191 at mile #73.
Continue southeast on S-118 and after three miles you cross Muddy Creek where the pavement ends. About 100 yards further is a junction at Big Sandy. Here you can take S-133 west along Muddy Creek and join S-113 going to US-191.
Stay southeast along Muddy Creek on S-118 and after three miles you pass by a road going east to the Muddy Creek Feedground. As you continue southeast, you can see Elk Mountain and Tabernacle Butte to the south.
After five miles, you cross the Big Sandy River at Buckskin Crossing to another junction. Here you can take S-118 south to W-28 at mile #4 near Farson. That road swings around the base of Elk Mountain to Elk Horn Junction (11 miles). There you can turn north and rejoin the Big Sandy Road, or continue south to W-28 (23 more miles).
Turn east on S-132 and head toward Little Prospect Mountain. Along this stretch of the road you can see Elk Mountain and Tabernacle Butte to the south and to the northeast is Wind River Peak, Mount Nystrom, and Roaring Fork Mountain. After about four miles, the road starts to swing around the north side of Little Prospect Mountain. Here you pass by a ranch road going north and you continue east around the mountain and drop down along the Big Sandy River.
Eight miles from Buckskin Crossing is another junction. Here you can go north to the Big Sandy Campground and a trailhead into the Jim Bridger Wilderness (10 miles).
Stay southeast over a divide to the Little Sandy River (four miles). Two miles after crossing the Little Sandy is a junction near Prospect Mountain. Here you can turn south to Elk Horn Junction and then go over to Farson.
Turn east on S-132 and the road travels along Lander Creek and the base of Prospect Mountain. After five miles, you come to the next junction. Here you can go north to the Sweetwater Gap Campground and another trailhead to the wilderness.
Stay southeast along Lander Creek. After about five miles, you cross the county line and travel out along a ridge where you have a good view of Continental Peak, Pacific Butte, and Oregon Buttes to the southeast. To the far south is Steamboat Mountain and to the north is Atlantic Peak, Sweetwater Gap, and Mount Nystrom. Fifteen miles from the Sweetwater Gap Junction you hit W-28 at mile #33.
