This little trip begins by turning off US-287 (mile #33) southeast of Togwotee Pass. As you head north on NF-515, you can see Lava Mountain to the southwest. The road travels below the Pinnacle Buttes and follows along Brooks Lake Creek. The trees in this area are lodgepole pine, spruce, and fir. (Nice little drive.)

You pass by the Pinnacle Trailhead and a road going to the Bonneville Pass Trailhead. A bit further is the Pinnacle Campground and the Brooks Lake Campground. Here the trip ends for most people. The road continuing to US-287 is a high clearance vehicle, impassable when wet road and travel is not recommended. (However, if you do take the five mile trip, it offers a great view of the Pinnacles as you climb up the mountain. You then get views of Lava Mountain and Two Ocean Mountain as the road traverses along the other side of the mountain to the Wind River Lake picnic area off US-26 at mile #26 at Togwotee Pass.)
