This short trip begins by turning off W-191 at mile #13 north of Rock Springs. Turn west on S-14 for two miles to a junction. Here you can take the road continuing west and join the Blue Rim Road (see page 85).

Turn south on S-53 toward the top of White Mountain and after three or four miles you can see Pilot Butte to the southwest and Aspen Mountain to the southeast. To the northeast is South Table, Steamboat Mountain, Indian Gap, and Essex Mountain (from east to west). You can also see the Wind River Mountains to the distant northeast, with the Killpecker Sand Dunes and Boars Tusk in the foreground. (Nice view.)

About six miles further south, you pass by a road turning west to the base of Pilot Butte (with a trail leading to the top). Along this stretch you can now see the Wyoming Range to the northwest, the Uinta Mountains to the southwest, Pine Mountain to the south, and Black Butte to the east.

Four miles south of Pilot Butte you pass by a tower and the road swings west. Here you can see the nearby Wilkin Peak across to the south. After six more miles the road drops down the mountain and goes under I-80. Here you enter Green River at Wild Horse Canyon Road and Trona Drive. Take Wild Horse Canyon Road to West Flaming Gorge Way near I-80 and exit #89.

Depending on when the last BLM roundup was, wild horses can be seen throughout most of the Red Desert.
