This trip begins by taking W-116 northeast from Upton. At mile #23 you come to a junction. Here you can continue on W-116 to Sundance. Turn north on the Arch Creek Road (W-21) for four miles to a junction at Arrowhead Lake. Here you can see the top of Missouri Buttes to the north, the Bear Lodge Mountains to the northeast, and Inyan Kara to the east. At this junction, the Douglas Road (W-24) going east crosses Mason Creek after two miles and then turns northeast for five more miles to a junction on Inyan Kara Creek. There you can go south to W-116 (mile #14), or north to I-90 (exit #178).
Continue north along Arch Creek and after two miles you pass by Hageman Reservoir. You now follow along above Inyan Kara Creek on the Norris Divide to a junction in five miles. Here you can take C-93 north across I-90 and then northwest to Keyhole Reservoir (see page 177).
Turn east on C-93 down to the creek and I-90 at exit #172. To continue on the road to Devils Tower, you go under I-90 and follow along the creek to the north. After seven miles, you cross Inyan Kara Creek to a junction. Here you can go south for five miles and then west to Keyhole Reservoir on the Kay Road (C-106).
Stay to the north and you cross the creek again in one mile. The road follows along the creek for about five more miles to a junction at the confluence with the Belle Fourche River. Here you can go south on the McKean Road (C-180) to Keyhole Reservoir and then to either I-90 at exit #165, or US-14 north of Moorcroft (see page 177).
Continue north and you begin following the Belle Fourche River. To the northwest you can see Missouri Buttes and to the north is Devils Tower. Four miles further, you hit US-14 at mile #179, just west of Devils Tower Junction (W-24 and US-14).
