This trip begins at Spotted Horse on US-14 at mile #70. As you head east on US-14, the road travels through Chicken Creek Draw. At mile #74 you drop over the Chicken Creek Divide to a junction at mile #76. Here you can continue southeast on US-14 to Gillette.
Turn north on the Recluse Road and, as you travel across the rolling hills, you can see Horse Creek Butte to the south. You pass through Recluse after five miles and three miles further is a junction at the end of the pavement. Here you can continue north on the Bitter Creek Road to Broadus, Montana (see page 161).
Turn east on the Bay Horse Road (Woods Road). After two miles the road swings north past an OFR going east. Two miles further is another junction. Here the Bay Horse Road continues north toward Broadus.
Turn east on the Elk Creek Road and you travel along a divide between Elk Creek on the north and White Tail Creek on the south. You travel past the base White Tail Butte after about four miles and two miles further is another junction at Four Corners. Here the Hart Road turns northeast to W-59 near the state line, and the Collins Road turns south to US-14 north of Gillette.
Continue east and the road drops down along Elk Creek and past ponderosa pine, boxelder, cottonwood, and peachleaf willow trees. You follow along the creek for seven miles and hit W-59 at mile #156, across from the Little Powder River and 12 miles north of Weston.
