I tried with all my heart to use dynamic methods and effective communication to stimulate interest. Sun Tzu wrote that the art of war is to prepare well and win the battle before the first skirmish. In presenting a topic, especially technical information or emotionally charged issues, I must know the material frontwards and backwards so that a structured presentation appears to "happen" as if spontaneously. This method enables me to freely move within (and sometimes in and out of) a subject by engaging individuals and drawing them into participation. Such engagement is helpful in growing an individual's autonomy and responsibility. Acknowledgement and empowerment of an individual reduces opposition and establishes mutual respect - before it might be needed if conflict resolution is required.

But presentation is not the same as communication and trust is fundamental to communication. Immanuel Kant's philosophy placed honesty and trustworthiness at the heart of how we should live. If I am to communicate with another then I must make my "self" available and my values transparent; I must do the work to understand the needs and concerns. This is not to be idealistic and say there will be agreement or consensus, but, instead, to be realistic and labor so that the differences are recognized and respected with empathy.
